Designed and delivered by ClarkeHopkinsClarke, the Bellarine Peninsula’s first subregional retail centre in Leopold opened its doors for the first time last week. Having completed the initial Leopold Gateway Plaza neighbourhood activity centre almost 10 years ago with former client Lascorp, ClarkeHopkinsClarke worked collaboratively with developer Vicinity Centres and construction company ADCO, to achieved the rezoning, establish the master plan and realise the design.
The redeveloped and expanded centre features an additional 16,000m2 of retail floor area including major retailers Kmart and Aldi as well as integration with the existing Coles and adjacent Bunnings Warehouse. The centre has a strong community focus, incorporating a public precinct featuring a range of cafes and restaurants, children’s play equipment and a variety of formal and informal seating areas.
The centre has already been well received by the community. Vicinity Centres Development Manager, Lisa O’Halloran, made the following observation just two days after the centre was opened, “The town square was absolutely pumping tonight – restaurants full, kids climbing all over the play equipment, teenagers lolling on the lawns listening to live music – just perfection.”
