We recently collaborated with The Alfred Hospital to develop a new Perioperative Unit with the aim of improving patient experiences and achieving operational efficiencies.
The planning of the unit has developed from the identification of efficient and logical flows for patient and staff movement given the growth in surgical services. Connections within the unit and with other areas of the hospital have been carefully considered. The unit comprises a large reception and admissions area along with 12 inpatient beds, 6 second stage recovery chairs, interview room, clinical support areas as well as a staff office and amenities.
A palette of natural materials including timber, subdued lighting and comfortable seating has enabled the creation of a calm and comforting reception and waiting area for patients which is more reminiscent of a hotel than a hospital while the recovery areas are lighter and brighter with similar natural timber accents.
