Located on the former site of Sandringham College Beaumaris Campus, Beaumaris Secondary College is a new stand-alone Year 7-12 school catering for students in the Beaumaris and surrounding area.
The school has a strong community focus and a close relationship with the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and local sporting clubs. The project includes two competition grade cricket ovals, a multi-purpose pitch and a sports pavilion on the site, which will provide the school with state of the art sports facilities during school hours, and the community with shared access to these facilities after hours and on weekends. The campus also incorporates a Games Hall which houses a competition size netball and a basketball stadium, performing arts spaces, food technology kitchens and canteen facilities, also designed for potential shared community use.
The main three-storey learning community building provides a prominent civic presence on the corner of Balcombe Road and Reserve Road. The main entry leads to a double storey library resource centre, reception and administration area. Specialist facilities including Science, Art, Design and Material Technology, are all located on the ground floor to encourage inter-disciplinary collaboration. The first and second floor features a diverse range of learning spaces to support different modes of learning and teaching, including large collaborative areas, small group discussion pods, direct instructional spaces, creative wet areas, and informal learning spaces. Vertical circulation and voids provide connectivity between the different levels and create opportunities for gathering and social spaces.
