The recent redevelopment of Coatesville Primary School comprises a purpose-built, integrated Junior Learning Centre / Administration Hub as well as a new Multi-Purpose Games Hall facility incorporating Canteen, and Visual & Performing Arts learning spaces. These two central project elements, as well as associated outdoor purposeful learning/play zones, combine to create an outward-facing identity for the school that brings its public face into alignment with its position as a community hub and an industry leader in the area of transforming current educational models.
The design of the new Junior Learning Centre provides agile learning environments that support a range of teaching modalities including individual, small group, seminar and collaborative work, outdoor learning as well as incorporating a dedicated resource area. The building itself is split into two levels with a tiered multi-purpose zone at the heart of the building forming a junction that can be utilised as a combined learning area, a gathering place, and presentation space for larger groups. The transition between spaces is seamless yet subtle interventions and visual cues allow a degree of screening between the various learning areas without interrupting flow or vision.
The new facilities were purposefully designed to transmit a strong sense of identity, create agile learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all learners, and celebrate the importance of education as an anchor within the community.
