Working in close consultation with Hepburn Shire Council, and through an extensive community consultation process, ClarkeHopkinsClarke is breathing new life into a historically significant but under-utilised building within the heart of Daylesford. Originally designed and constructed as a theatre in the 1920’s, the Rex Shopping Arcade, located on Vincent Street, was overhauled in the 2009 but over time has failed to serve as the bustling retail centre imagined.
New plans for a community and cultural hub are now being realised, with work currently underway on a new cinema, library, cafe and retail spaces. Significantly, the building will also consolidate the region’s four council offices in a new collaborative and open plan space allowing for greater interactivity with the community they serve.
The project aims to create a vibrant facility for community enjoyment, reactivate and reinvigorate business opportunities within this portion of Vincent Street and create efficiencies for the running of council. The building will also include car parking for tenants, staff and visitors with an improved entryway to the centre. The heritage facade will remain untouched.
