Makna School

Jakarta, Indonesia

Located in a developing district of West Jakarta, approximately 30kms from the CBD, this new an ELC to Year 12 education precinct was masterplanned on a greenfield site with close ties to the proposed university campus to the north, and the planned residential estates that will border the school site. Stage 1 of works is currently under construction and will see the development of the ELC to Year 6 facilities.

The multi-story school building has been designed as an exemplar for pedagogical evolution in the region, focusing on the creation of learning community spaces that break down the traditional ‘cells and bells’ model of education that is prevalent in Indonesia. The design responds to the local climatic conditions, with a strong ESD focus that strives to achieve Platinum Green Ship Indonesia Certification and internationally recognised Passivehaus Design Certification, as well as targeting a Zero Carbon Footprint in terms of Operational Performance, demonstrating national and international leadership in sustainable design.
