The Morwell Central Primary School brief was to consolidate three existing primary schools onto the former site of Kurnai College and develop a state-of-the-art facility, known as Morwell Central Primary School. Incorporating an existing Games Hall and Performing Arts Centre on the site, the project has delivered a new integrated Administration and Learning Communities Building, as well as alterations and additions to the existing Games Hall.
Focusing on the learning experience of the students, Morwell Central Primary School provides a diverse range of learning environments including Instructional Spaces, Collaborative Spaces, Reflective Spaces, and Group Areas that empower students to engage with their learning and find their passion. Integrated Specialist Learning Hubs provide diverse learning spaces including wet spaces for messy activities, an experimental learning zone, tiered seating pods for storytelling/presentations/group work, a multi-media pod, project spaces, reflection and quiet rooms. These spaces reflect the diverse active and passive learning needs of each learner and enable an easy flow of activity to support varied programs and activities.
The design of Morwell Central Primary School supports the diverse needs of teachers and students and provides an inviting and welcoming environment that embraces the broader community. The Administration Building comprises a central resources and library zone that acts as an anchor for community connection, facilitating diverse programs and shared use by the junior and senior learners as well as providing an adaptable space for use by the wider school community. The campus features a strong landscaping element including learning and play spaces that encourage the wider school community to connect with the school environment, encouraging sibling play during pick-up times and building a sense of excitement for the school for future students.
