Completed in 2014, this new school brings together a Special School and a Special Development School under one roof. Officer Specialist School was developed on a greenfield site in Officer, and caters for students aged from 5 to 18 years, with a broad range of abilities and a variety of complex care needs. The design aims to break away from the traditional institutional and often clinical character of these types of schools, and to create a more engaging, inspiring environment for learning. The planning of the new Officer Specialist School has created a series of ‘schools within schools’ that bring students of similar ages and abilities together in appropriately scaled buildings. The learning spaces have been developed to ensure that each child is provided with opportunities to achieve their full potential in inviting, supportive and engaging facilities.
