I have an evolving interest in the design process as an outcome of stakeholder engagement that challenges ideas and creates a strong sense of space.
Kyal’s a designer of multi-award-winning commercial, civic and tertiary environments. He studied IT and software development straight out of school and built his problem-solving skills and algorithmic thinking about how things work, what end-users need, and how to parse ideas and objectives into spatial outcomes. This proved invaluable when he made the leap into interior architecture, which he sees as a melting pot of art, architecture and poetry.
Over the past six years he’s developed a strong volumetric style and design narrative firmly focused on the visceral, sensory experience of the body in space. He’s an astute observer of the ever-evolving nature of work, and his outstanding workplace design captures clients’ identity and aspirations in volumes that are as multi-dimensional as they are.
Kyal thrives in multi-disciplinary environments. He sees a robust design and review process as central to success. He joined our interiors team in mid-2020 to help deliver exemplar projects with design consistency and rigour. He works across our Melbourne and Sydney studios.
He’s a natural joiner-of-dots excited by the prospect of absorbing and adapting ideas and knowledge from sectors like health that are new to him for environments like retail and commercial that he knows so well. This is precisely the sort of creative cross-pollination designers and clients need to create innovative solutions in rapidly changing times. It makes Kyal a great addition to our team.
