"My passion is high quality, inclusive homes that connect us with nature."
As the Partner leading CHC’s Residential team, Toby Lauchlan has more than 25 years’ experience designing high quality homes and inclusive communities that connect people to nature and each other. Diverse specialties in Architecture, Property and Construction inform his approach. His broad experience in Australia and London spans design, development and building, including working with influential architect Peter McIntyre. This perspective enables him to design collaboratively with clients on residential living and mixed-use projects at a range of scales.
Insightful and empathetic, Toby believes high-quality, high-performing, sustainable design is for everyone. He’s highly regarded for his astute masterplanning and commitment to environmental and social impact, and driven to create improved urban design outcomes through better design with enduring value. His team’s collaborations with impact focused developers include an award-winning series of residential communities for at-risk women and families with Women’s Housing Limited, and fine-grained urban renewal projects like Cowper Residences.
Time in nature is a lifelong love of Toby’s, and it shows. He’s passionate about maximising the opportunities of every project, regardless of scale or typology, by responding sensitively to local context. He and his team use their masterplanning and ESD expertise to create memorable projects with biophilic connections, robust materiality, and adaptable spaces linking residents to each other and their surroundings.
