James is a Senior Associate at ClarkeHopkinsClarke, leading the practice’s dedicated aged care team. Drawing on his experience across commercial, heritage, community and multi-residential architecture, James is an advocate for the design and delivery of truly integrated communities for Australia’s growing senior population.
How can an aging population be housed, supported and integrated within established and emerging communities? What role will architecture and urban design play in creating and satisfying demand for this new style of accommodation? Can aged care buildings be exemplars of design in their own right and respond to both people and place? It is questions like these, which James seeks to answer.
In his role as project leader, James guides ClarkeHopkinsClarke’s aged care team through each phase of a project’s evolution, from visioning to practical completion. He adds particular value to the conceptualisation phase, where he is able to initiate and guide conversations between complex stakeholder groups to change thinking within the broader community and achieve industry leading outcomes.
James is a natural leader. His collaborative and personable approach with clients, stakeholders and consultant teams alike instigates creative design thinking and ensures the development of project outcomes that address the aspirations of all involved. He is confident in his ability to deliver, and provides a structured, well thought through platform for his team and projects to succeed.
As an associate, James works in collaboration with the partners and leadership team to support the professional development of our practice team. An emerging thought leader within the aged care sector he actively contributes to public discussion, is a supporter of the greater architectural industry through participation in AIA professional development and mentoring programs and is a board member for the Balibo House Trust.
