Laurens Street Mixed Use Offices

Linking North Melbourne's industrial past to its vibrant people-focused future

Location: Wurundjeri Country, 88 Laurens Street, North Melbourne VIC
Status: Under Construction

Located in a predominantly commercial and industrial area of North Melbourne, opposite the future Arden Precinct high-density transit-oriented development site, this new mixed use office building comprises 13 levels of office tenancies and landscaped roof terrace with a medical precinct, retail tenancy and cafe at ground level and associated car parking.

The design intent of the built form responds to the rich history and vibrant new identity of the local context, acting as a metaphorical bridge connecting its industrial past with an activated and exciting future.

Drawing inspiration from the local design vernacular of towering silos and arched forms, dramatically-scaled curved cutouts punctuate the glass façade, revealing the activity within and welcoming the community into the building envelope.

A sweeping glass façade provides the essence of a solid planar form, tying into the character of the surrounding streetscape, whilst utilising the qualities of reflection and transparency to enhance activation and connection with the neighbourhood.

Visible from Laurens Street are the original Weston Milling silos, which served as a point of reference in the interior design through the incorporation of subtle soft curves in form and furnishing.
