This is the second project being delivered as part of the New Epping Health Hub (NEHH), a $1 billion healing and innovation precinct in the largest public-private health cluster in Melbourne’s north. This wellbeing-led masterplan for the NEHH links 80,000m-sq of new spaces for specialist healthcare, holistic wellness and community with established hospitals, medical facilities and green open space including the 2.7km Edgars Creek Corridor walking loop.
This project features an optimised thermal envelope that achieves at least 10% improvement over current regulatory requirements, high efficiency building services, 30 kW PV array to reduce operational emissions, 12 EV charging stations with infrastructure for 42 more, and best-practice IEQ via the provision of 100% outdoor air and good access to daylight.
Through an exceptional collaboration with renowned landscape architects McGregor Coxall and sustainability experts HIP V. HYPE, this remarkable building seamlessly integrates sustainable design with lush landscaping. A striking central lightwell, adorned with towering rainforest trees, serves as a focal point, uniting biophilic spaces across all six levels. Carefully crafted to foster recovery and enhance the wellbeing of both patients and practitioners, the design creates a serene, high-performance environment where nature and architecture coexist harmoniously.
The ground floor features tactile masonry surfaces and fine-grained detail, with upper-level carparking, and planter boxes around the perimeter to soften the interface. Upper floors feature abundant natural light and glazing framing spectacular views. Landscaped entries, thresholds and corridors are wide and generous, and diverse waiting areas include sheltered, semi-outdoor spaces and a welcoming cafe.
