Geelong West Mixed Use Precinct

Proposed scheme creates public and private connection to local history, built context and through site.

Location: Wadawurrung Country, Geelong VIC
Status: Town Planning

The Pakington Street and Gordon Avenue Urban Development Framework set out by the City of Greater Geelong intends to revitalize parts of Geelong West by encouraging projects that will help to seed a vibrant urban village character.

The proposed design brings together a precinct of commercial, hospitality and retail accommodation. It introduces a select mixture of new uses to the area, provides activated urban edges and supports established trade in the area.

The project's interface with a residential street, called for a finer grain approach for the podium design. We drew on the industrial character of the area to define a strong urban edge with a masonry facade, that was generously set back and softened by curved form and planters.

By stepping in at pedestrian level, we create a protected colonnade that connects through the site bringing activity and vibrancy in and around the site.
