Laurens Street

Linking North Melbourne’s industrial past to its vibrant people-focused future

Location: Wurundjeri Country, 88 Laurens Street, North Melbourne VIC
Status: Under Construction

The interior design for Laurens Street seeks to explore the refined urbanity of an inner city building along with textural qualities that tie the site back to its historical past. The site was previously an area of industry where flour milling was a primary output. Still visible from Laurens Street are original flour silos which become a point of reference in the interior design. Introducing subtle soft curves into the form of the Lobby spaces, provides an understated reference to the silos.

The material palette combines timeless materials with an elegant industrial aesthetic. The tones of the natural stone provide a sophisticated warmth, while the use of blackened metal accents, suggests a contemporary urban city which is driven by progress.
