As part of the wider redevelopment and expansion of Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Cardiology Department, we were engaged to transform the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory into a specialised yet flexible space for electrophysiology studies, treatments as well as a range of other cardiac catheter procedures.

As a landlocked site with no access or direct connection to nature, the design focused on creating an enriching environment using biophilic design principles. Materials and soft curving forms mimic the natural environment, paired with shades of blue known to reduce anxiety and stress for patients.
