Claudia Takada

Architect, RAIA

BArch (UTS), MArch

“At its core architecture serves its users, so our focus is the way they experience a space. Texturally, how does it feel? Visually, what can they see? Answering these questions helps us create spaces that elevate the human experience of architecture.”

Claudia is talented designer in our Retail and Mixed-Use team whose experience spans office design, retail developments, master planning, multi-residential housing, hospitality venues, religious buildings, sports and recreational facilities including an indoor action sports facility and artificial wave pool and, more recently, a PassiveHaus residence in a coastal environment.

In 2023 she won the international Buildner Office Design Competition for Blackheath Creative Hub, a ‘slow’ creative studio in Sydney’s Blue Mountains. It combines post-pandemic working-from-home, adaptive community activation with a breathable rammed earth form that connects users and community with nature, each other and their creative impulses. Judge Julia Murphy, Managing Partner and USA + Canada East Practice Leader at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, described Claudia’s approach as offering “a poetic relationship of nature and the outdoors to the post-Covid office landscape and ... a radical approach to humanism in the office environment.”

Claudia is a highly motivated and imaginative designer who thrives on challenge. She brings a strong focus on community engagement, activation and changing needs to her project. Reflective and rigorous in her design thinking, Claudia tests ideas and looks for adaptive design solutions that work well for clients and communities in delivering commercial viability, environmental sustainability, user wellbeing, and memorable design experiences.
